Jose Baer

Son of Steve and Holly Baer. Estate executor following Steve Baer’s death on May 17, 2024 (executor role per user information noted in the archive; not independently published). Solar Fools member. The solarfool.org team page describes him as land manager at Naturion and owner of Oso Ag, LLC, “passionate about leveraging markets for everyone’s good,” wanting to bring his father’s designs to the world.

He co-wrote his father’s Amherst College memorial with Dick Weisfelder ‘60, describing Steve as “a self-taught expert in architecture, engineering and mathematics, a pioneer in passive solar technologies and an inventor of widely used products.” (The Corrales Comment obituary listed a surviving “son Steve”; the Amherst memorial, written by Jose himself, confirms the son’s name is Jose — the Corrales Comment is likely in error.)

The Baer House in Corrales, NM — a cluster of zomes built by Steve Baer in 1971 — passed to the estate and is likely now available (unsourced working fact). Jose Baer is the point of contact for questions about preservation and acquisition.

On his father’s 31-zone truss system — developed into the commercial Zometool modeling kit by Paul Hildebrandt — Jose Baer considers it “possibly his father’s most significant work,” a system “which scientists use today to illustrate work in quasicrystals and symmetry.”
